Robert McCarthy is a percussionist, composer, arranger, and writer from Boston, MA. Born in Brockton, MA, Robert McCarthy began studying percussion at the age of 10 with Portland Symphony Orchestra percussionist Richard Kelley.

Robert received his bachelor's degree in Psychology with a Minor in Music from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York. At Marist Robert spent much of his time learning to arrange and compose music, learning ensemble methods, and studying percussion with Eric Scheffler (West Point Hellcats), Nathan Eby (West Point Band), and summer lessons with Lee Vinson (formerly Boston Symphony Orchestra). Notable accolades include Marist Band President and the Baccalaureate Award for Excellence in Music.

Additionally, Robert has a number of published articles on music in print and electronic media, including the Journal of the Association of Concert Bands as well as GoldenFlair.com online music blog.

With theatrical shows like Blue Man Group and PACE percussion trio in mind, Robert enjoys composing and arranging music with high energy and audience enjoyment. Robert currently attends the Boston Conservatory and is pursuing a Masters Degree in Music Education, where he also studied percussion with Keith Aleo (Zildjian), Nancy Zeltsman (solo marimba), Samuel Solomon (Yesaroun' Duo, Line C3), and John Grimes (Handel and Haydn Society). He is a member of the Percussive Arts Society, The Association of Concert Bands, and Kappa Kappa Psi Band Fraternity.
